The Australian Centre for Heart Health
Improving the lives of people with heart disease
The Australian Centre for Heart Health (ACHH) brings together our internationally recognised research, our highly successful Cardiac Workforce Development Program and our innovative Cardiac Wellbeing Program to support cardiac patients and their families.
An Australian first
The combination of cardiac secondary prevention research with the twin translational pillars of workforce development and a Cardiac Wellbeing Program is unique in Australia.
The ACHH is a not for profit, independent Medical Research Institute (iMRI) devoted to reducing repeat cardiac events and improving the lives of people living with heart disease. It is also a National Health & Medical Research Council (NH&MRC) administering organisation. The ACHH is a company limited by guarantee, incorporated under the provisions of the Companies (Victoria) Code. It is an income tax exempt public benevolent institution and is endorsed as a deductible gift recipient.
The Centre is proud of its University affiliations. We are a collaborating centre of Deakin University, through the Faculty of Health, with all research staff having honorary appointments at Deakin. We are also affiliated with the University of Melbourne through the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.
The Australian Centre for Heart Health was, until May 2016, known as the Heart Research Centre.
A message from the Director
As a consequence of the COVID-19 health emergency and social distancing restrictions, access to centre-based cardiac rehabilitation programs is limited at this time. This leaves people like you, who have recently experienced a cardiac event, unable to complete an important part of your recovery. Cardiac rehabilitation is important for your physical and emotional recovery.
The Australian Centre for Heart Health has developed a range of support programs that can assist people in their cardiac recovery without having to attend a centre-based program. You can access the service that best suits you from the Centre’s Cardiac Wellbeing Program – Teleheart, Back on Track or the Cardiac Counselling Clinic. These programs can help you make a good recovery and can provide an opportunity to work on lifestyle changes and get support for managing mood difficulties such as anxiety.
