We are Australia’s only centre dedicated exclusively to the psychological aspects of heart disease. Our work focusses on supporting psychological, emotional and social recovery after heart events.

Our mission is to improve the wellbeing of people with heart disease so that they can lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

We deliver this through three main areas: research, patient services, and health professional training.

Research

Our research investigates the mental health impacts of heart events - cardiac distress, cardiac blues, anxiety, depression, fear of recurrence and sleep. We have special projects on spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD), congenital heart conditions, cardiac arrest and clinical measurement.

Patient Services

We provide counselling through the Cardiac Psychology Clinic to support heart patients in their recovery. We developed the Cardiac Blues resources for patients and health professionals, to support emotional recovery after a cardiac event.

Health Professional Training

We provide Training for health professionals working in cardiac rehabilitation. Programs are developed and delivered by expert, multi-disciplinary facilitators. Click here for our training programs.
