Who We Are

The ACHH is a not for profit, independent Medical Research Institute (iMRI) dedicated to improving the lives of people with heart disease and reducing repeat cardiac events. We are:

  • A National Health & Medical Research Council (NH&MRC) administering organisation

  • A company limited by guarantee, incorporated under the provisions of the Companies (Victoria) Code.

  • An income tax exempt public benevolent institution and are endorsed as a deductible gift recipient.

The combination of cardiac secondary prevention Research with the twin translational pillars of Patient Services and Health Professional Training is unique in Australia. Our patient services are delivered through our Cardiac Wellbeing Program, the only one of its kind in Australia.

We are proud of our University affiliations. We are a collaborating centre of Deakin University, through the Faculty of Health, with all research staff having honorary appointments at Deakin. We are also affiliated with the University of Melbourne through the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.

Until May 2016, the Australian Centre for Heart Health was known as the Heart Research Centre.

Diversity and Equity Statement

The Australian Centre for Heart Health recognises the importance of diversity in the workplace. We respect people as individuals and value their differences. We believe that diversity in ethnicity, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, religion, and perspective contributes to our success as an organisation.

The Centre believes in treating all people with respect and dignity. We strive to foster a supportive and inclusive workplace in which all individuals realise their potential and where everyone in the workplace enjoys equal opportunity to succeed without any barriers due to their differences.

We embrace diversity as a source of strength and recognise the strategic advantage that comes from incorporating a wide variety of capabilities, experiences, and insights.

The Centre is committed to:

  • Raising awareness of and maintaining our strong commitment to workplace diversity

  • Recruiting, retaining, and developing a diverse workforce

  • Providing a supportive working environment that meets the needs of a diverse workforce

  • Promoting and encouraging a diverse workplace by fostering an environment of mutual learning, respect, and appreciation of differences.

The Centre is also committed to equity. We strive to enhance opportunities for all members of the organization to achieve their potential by encouraging the development of complementary specialties and interests in our three areas of work: clinical services, training and research. In recognition that cardiovascular disease is not distributed equally in the community, with the burden falling more heavily on those in poorer socioeconomic circumstances, we strive to offer our clinical services at the lowest cost possible to minimize the potential for patients missing out on services due to lack of ability to pay.
