Support the Australian Centre for Heart Health

Your support and commitment is helping us provide better care for Australians living with heart disease. We could not achieve this without your help and would like to thank you for being on this journey with us.

The Australian Centre for Heart Health (ACHH) plays a unique role in Australia in tackling cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in Australia.

Our innovative research projects focus on investigating how to manage heart disease and how to prevent a recurrent event, by modifying people’s lifestyles, improving their psychological health and increasing their social support.

Research findings are used to develop tailored programs to improve the quality of life of patients, as well as their families, and to encourage healthy behaviour so we can reduce premature disability and death from heart disease.

We are committed to evidence-informed practice, and share our research results with doctors, nurses and other health professionals through the Centre’s internationally renowned training programs. This helps to ensure that heart patients receive the best community-based care available.

With your help, our research will focus on the following critical areas for the year ahead:

  • Managing depression and anxiety, and improving patients’ quality of life
  • Understanding sleep disorders in cardiac patients
  • Increasing physical activity to improve patients’ cardiovascular health
  • Improving cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention programs

We are also developing a research program in the area of childhood heart disease, which will begin with a project to help parents cope better with their child’s heart condition.

With your support, our investment in research today can help to prevent heart disease and lead to a better quality of life for those living with heart disease.

Thank you once again and best wishes for 2018 to you and your loved ones.

All donations over $2.00 to the Australian Centre for Heart Health are tax deductible.

Why women need cardiac rehabilitation

Research evidence shows that attendance at cardiac rehabilitation is just as beneficial for women as it is for men, and it is just as important that women are encouraged to attend. Clearly we need to make cardiac rehabilitation more ‘female-friendly’ and that this includes making the exercises and the CR environment more tailored to women’s needs and preferences.
