Dr Alyna Turner

Dr Alyna Turner joined the Centre in January 2010. She studied psychology at the University of Newcastle and is a registered clinical psychologist, having worked clinically in community cardiac and respiratory rehabilitation and liaison psychiatry. At the University of Newcastle she also contributed to a number of trials of psychological interventions for comorbid conditions (mental health, substance misuse, and/or physical health conditions) as a treatment therapist, therapy supervisor, outcomes assessor, trial coordinator and investigator.

Once at the Centre, Dr Turner expanded her research with people with both cardiac conditions and stroke survivors, developing a collaboration with staff at the Melbourne Brain Centre at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. She also trained health professionals in counselling skills, motivational interviewing, cognitive behaviour therapy, chronic disease self-management and depression screening and management.
In 2013 Dr Turner commenced work with Deakin University, expanding her research expertise to pharmacological interventions. She is working as a trial coordinator and investigator on multi-site clinical trials of novel therapies for bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and methamphetamine dependence.
