Cardiac Distress Study
While many people make a good physical recovery from heart surgery or a heart attack, many experience changes in their mood and difficulty in resuming usual activities after their heart event. We are running a study to learn more about the difficulties involved in the emotional recovery from a heart event and to help more cardiac patients in the future adjust successfully after their heart illness or operation.
To be involved, you just need to fill in a one-off questionnaire which will take around 20-25 minutes. Your responses will be completely secure and anonymous. You are eligible to participate in the Cardiac Distress Study if you have had a heart event, such as heart attack, heart surgery or stent, or unstable angina, in the past six months. If you meet these criteria and would like to be part of this study, please click the appropriate button below to access questionnaire. Many thanks.
What is the Cardiac Distress Study?
The purpose of the Cardiac Distress Study is to learn more about the difficulties involved in the emotional recovery from a heart event. With this knowledge, we will develop the Cardiac Distress Inventory, a comprehensive measure of distress after a cardiac event. This tool could then be used to assist health professionals in identifying areas of concern for patients and should help more cardiac patients in the future adjust successfully after their heart illness or operation.
What am I required to do in the Cardiac Distress Study?
If you agree to participate in the Cardiac Distress Study, you will be asked to complete a one-off online or hard-copy consent form and questionnaire, which asks some questions about yourself and a set of questions about your emotions. Your responses will remain strictly confidential. The questionnaire should take approximately 25 minutes to complete.
Am I eligible to participate?
You are eligible to participate in the Cardiac Distress Study if you have had a heart event, such as heart attack, heart surgery or stent, or unstable angina, in the past six months. If you complete the questionnaire online, you will also need access to a computer, tablet or smartphone and the internet.
Who is running the Cardiac Distress Study and how do I get involved?
The Cardiac Distress Study is being conducted by the Australian Centre for Heart Health with support from University Hospital, Geelong, Monash Health and Stanford University. The Cardiac Distress Study has received ethics approval from the Monash Health Human Research Ethics Committee. You can become involved by following the links to the questionnaire.
